Theater annoyances

"Tudududumduuuuu, Tudududumduuuuu, Hello Motto!" Someone’s mobile is ringing. I chuckle, that guy must be so embarrassed right now. "Yeah... it's James.." What? He's picking up? The guy right behind us casually starts a conversation. When this happens I begin to question my own behavior. The first thing I would do, if I really had to pick up, is go out of the room. Maybe it is normal nowadays to pick up your phone during a movie? Since a couple of years, Shannon and I go to the cinema about once every one or two weeks. This way we get to see some of the best cinema moments. People fighting over seats. Getting just one ticket out of the machine, before it's sold out. Or sitting next to some guy that, as it turns out, hasn't showered in, well, probably ever. But these are not the biggest problems. The problem starts when people have different standards than about everyone else in the room. Like the commentators. Babbling trough the movie in the main scene. Like people who take off their shoes next to you. Like, what the ..? So do we all have to quiet down and not move a finger during the movie? Of course not. But a little respect, a little thought about your fellow viewer wouldn't hurt. Right? I have to admit. Sometimes I'm even scared to be that guy. When Shannon is enjoying her bag of candy. Crrrrrrracrrrccaaarcccak. Are people annoyed? O, what do I care? Everybody does it! Wait, my phone is ringing. "Yeah... it's James.." And there's the next guy who will annoy you.
Theater annoyances discussion
  • Well since the phone was answered as "yeh? This is James...." I'm wondering if you are referring to "yourself" (yeh... JAMES!....) or if you just like using the name James to describe people who would rather remain anonymous....??? HHmmm? Inquiring minds want to know....

So anyhoo.... my peev is the ones who bring babies that like to cry. Not showering is gross too but luckily I have not had the pleasure of that smell....

  • I was just trying to make a Memento moment there. ;) Since the first guy who answered maybe was the same person. But what I meant is, if everybody starts picking up their phone it gets normal and everybody starts doing it.

Great stories, the snoring types are nice too... And babies, o the noos, crying baaabies! :(

  • I can't believe the guy actually answered it and started chatting. Guess he didn't like the movie, haha. (I could never do that anyway -- a theater full of people listening in to my conversation? Ugh.)

  • I get pretty annoyed when a phone rings during a movie because there are many ads before the movie that say to shut them off. If you're expecting a call, put it on vibrate. If you need to answer it, walk out of the theatre. People pay enough to hear their phones ring that I don't want to be paying another $10 to hear somebody else's phone ring during a movie.

  • Haha, I don't think there is ever an end to theatre annoyances, and to my surprise the last time I went to the cinema I think I was one of those annoying people, talking through all the best scenes. Not my finest moment, but the freaks I have had to deal with are enough to drive a person insane. There those people that do not bath, as you mention, there are people who apparently go to the movies to do nothing other than snore, those that laugh like hysterical jungle animals {if jungle animals could laugh}, and one thing always remains the same, no matter what movie I go to I am always sitting in someone else's seat, sometimes I am, sometimes I am not. I would rather stay at home any day, download, download, download, it is far better. For me anyway, I cannot speak for anyone else.

  • Yeah, I'm actually avoiding cinemas these days, unless it's something I really have to see on the big screen.
    Happy Weekend =)

  • My personal favorite are the people who will start commenting on the current scene, I love those people.
