Box office preview: Knowing, Duplicity and I Love You, Man

Here’s a quick preview of this weekend’s movies at the box office. A poll has been running on the site since Wednesday and most of you voted if you were going to see Knowing with Nicolas Cage.

Here are the results. You guys said: No, we won’t be seeing Knowing with Nicolas Cage. At least, that’s what 69% said. The other 31% said they will be going to see Knowing, which is still a pretty good number I suppose. Although the critics didn’t agree with the 31%.

They gave this movie the lowest rating of this weekend’s new movies. The New York Daily said it’s just “pathetic.” TV Guide says “Knowing is the path to eternal pain.” And the New York Times says “The draggy, lurching two hours of Knowing will make you long for the end of the world.” Notable though, Roger Ebert was the only one to give this movie 4 out of 4 stars and said this movie is “among the best science-fiction films I've seen.”

Duplicity gets way more favorable reviews. The New York Times calls it “Superior entertainment.” The Charlotte Observer says it “sparkles with witt.” But still, many reviewers complain about its confusing plot.

And last, but no, not least, is I Love You, Man. Entertainment Weekly calls it “the best Judd Apatow comedy that Judd Apatow had nothing at all to do with.” And the Hollywood Reporter says “It's a rare comedy that actually grows funnier on reflection.” Although The New York Post says it’s “like listening to Michael Jackson tell you what real men are like.”

The box office gurus predict around $20 million for both Knowing and I Love You, Man. And around 15 million for Duplicity. I’ll have the first weekend estimates tomorrow.
