Worldwide box office: Knowing, Watchmen and Duplicity

Watch video: Box office weekend roundup

Transcript:

Not a lot of tickets were sold at the box office this weekend. But there aren’t that much high profile movies anyways. I mean, everybody already forgot about Watchmen, right?

Let’s begin with Watchmen. $6.7 million in the US and $7 million overseas. That makes $158 million worldwide. Not nearly enough to compensate for the couple of hundred million Warner put into it. Let’s quickly forget about that.

Here are the weekend totals for the US. At the third place Duplicity, with $14.4 million. A mild start for Julia Roberts. I Love You, Man opened with $18 million. A little below expectations. And Knowing made $24.8 million. In line with the opening everyone expected. Overseas the numbers were even lower. Duplicity opened with $4.2 million over there. Watchmen made $7 million. And both Gran Torino and Marley and Me made $8.8 million.

Also notable was the launch of Monsters vs. Aliens with $6.9 million in Russia and the Ukraine. And that’s pretty much it for the weekend. No notable totals except for the disappointing Watchmen numbers.

Next week will be more exciting, with Monsters vs. Aliens, which will probably make over $50 million. And the low budget Haunting in Connecticut and 12 Rounds.
