Hannah Montana and Fast and Furious fight at the box office

Watch the video: Hannah Box Office Montana

Transcript:

Never underestimate a Disney movie with a teen idol. That’s what the box office experts learned today. Miley Cyrus is looking at a opening almost twice as high as most expected. But if Hannah Montana The Movie is doing this well, does this mean Fast and Furious will be pushed to the second place?

Let’s start with the early Friday estimates. Monsters vs. Aliens made another $9 million. Still doing well. Fast and Furious made around $11 million. And Hannah Montana opened very strong with an estimated $16 million.

Meanwhile, Observe and Report didn’t make the top 3 with $4 million on Friday. This means Seth Rogen’s raunchy comedy is kind of underperforming and will end the weekend with around $11.5 million. Fast and Furious will do an estimated $30 million. And Hannah Montana The Movie will come in at number one with around $35 million. And if it does even better, as some are predicting, it could be the best Easter opening ever. But then it has to make more than $40 million.

And what about Dragonball: Evolution? Well, not that anybody cares, but it made around $2 million on Friday and it’ll end the Easter weekend with an estimated $5 million.

So, good numbers for Disney, kind of bad numbers for Warner, again, after the Watchmen disaster. And Fast and Furious is still a big hit. Overseas, Monsters vs. Aliens and Fast and Furious are battling for the first place. And Dragonball might enter the top 3 as well. But more on that, after the weekend.
