So the regulars know I don’t like doing reviews. I like giving recommendations. Or, not, but I don’t like spoiling any storylines.
Comedies are even worse. I don’t even care if there isn’t a story, I’m only seeing to laugh.
Story vs. Humor
So lucky me, because in Bruno, there basically is no story. Ok, the story is Bruno goes to Los Angeles to become a star. And there’s even some romance in it. But it’s basically just a bunch of segments. Awesome, funny segments. It was gross, over the top and everything you never imagined seeing.
The Offended
Now this might not be for you. Think, The Hangover, but a lot worse. A lot of people will be offended by Bruno. Hey, go see I Love You, Beth Cooper or Transformers 2. If you don’t like this movie, you probably already know it.
The Point
Is he trying to make a statement? About Americans and gays. Celebrities and their import babies. Celebrities and philanthropy. He probably is. But after seeing the ending, I’m not sure. I won’t spoil it, but it kind of sucked.
The Verdict
The story: 2 stars. The laughs: 5 stars. And I don’t care about the story, so here’s my recommendation: 4.5 stars.

Seems like a lot of people agreed with you initially at least – made a bucketload of cash in week 1 – but the lack of story seemed to kill it for week 2 – BIG audience drop-off. Looks like it’s not even gonna come close to Borat in the final tally.
Yeah, I’m actually quite surprised by the drop. The marketing push for this movie was amazing. Even bigger than for Borat. Bruno was everywhere. All over the world. But only the Borat fans seemed to care and all went on the first day – the theater seemed packed with fans when I was there on day 1. So yeah, amazingly frontloaded. Too bad..
