 | | Sacha Baron Cohen will join ‘Angels & Demons’ to kick off the 2009 summer blockbuster season. The comedian, famous for ‘Borat’ and ‘Ali G,’ will release his new movie ‘Bruno’ May 15, 2009.
The $42 million picture is set to become the comedy of next year, if Fox will market the movie as hard as it did with ‘Borat.’ The $18 million ‘Borat’ made $261 million worldwide in 2006, of which half in the US.
Although I’m sure the comedy will get some stiff competition from Sony’s marketing department. Like all the ‘Spider-Man’ movies and ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ ‘Angels & Demons’ will be one of the most heavily marketed movies of 2009. Jeff Blake will make sure it will.

 | | Anthony Peckham is on a roll. Last week we heard his script ‘The Human Factor’ is being directed by none other than Clint Eastwood and will feature Matt Damon. And this week he has signed to write ‘The Tourist,’ a crime drama with George Clooney.
Based on the book by Olen Steinhauer, it follows the story of a spy who is accused of murder and risks everything to uncover the truth. Bharat Nalluri, who recently made ‘Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,’ will direct the thriller.

Another romcom with the romance exclusive Hugh Grant. As he thinks this is the only genre he can excel at, it will be a long time before we see him doing something else. He has signed for the movie ‘Lost For Words’ with ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ star Zhang Ziyi. It’s produced by the same company that gave him the breakthrough role in ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral,’ Working Title.
It’s a lost in translation story with a comical note. When Grant gets romantic with two women, one is the translator. And she works this to her advantage.
Interesting to note is that the script is co-written by ‘Borat’ and ‘Ali G Indahouse’ scriptwriter Dan Mazer. Hugh Grant has stated in several articles how he adores the humor of Sacha Baron Cohen’s movies. Susanne Bier, who previously made ‘Things We Lost in the Fire,’ will direct the romance.

Hayden Christensen has pretty much confirmed a ‘Jumper’ sequel. “It was set up to become that — a trilogy — if it did well,” Christensen said. “And I think they’re happy with how it did so they want to make another one.“
While ‘Jumper’ wasn’t a big success in the US, the $85 million movie made $221 million worldwide, of which $80 in the US alone. Including marketing, this Doug Liman movie must have been profitable. But the question is how profitable?
They’re definitely thinking about a sequel though. “We’re talking about it,” Christensen said. “I know that they’re having those conversations, I hear about them.” And when asked if he would do the sequel he added, “Oh yeah, and I think I probably will.“
It sounds like the contract can fall on his doorstep any day now.
