How can a movie with the title ‘Men Who Stare at Goats’ turn into something bad? By adding George Clooney to the cast? I don’t think so. By letting Grant Heslov (’Good Night, and Good Luck’) write the script? Not in my opinion. Both are respectable guys. But what about a story which revolves around an US army unit that was to use paranormal powers to defeat their enemies. I don’t know, maybe.
It apparently topped a list of best unproduced scripts around in 2007. I don’t know if that’s something to be proud of either. That’s like saying you were the best of the people who didn’t make it. The script’s title is based on the idea you could kill a goat by staring at it. What’s so strange about that? Isn’t it the first trick you learn as a farmer? No? You think it’s time for me to go to bed now? I agree.. Later guys.

Christian Slater and Cuba Gooding Jr. will join hands for the action/comedy ‘Lies & Illusions.’ It’s a fairly cheap ($8.5 million) picture made by Nu Image/Millennium Films and will start shooting in Spokane this week. Still, it’s good to see these guys are still working.
The story revolves around a pair of stolen diamonds worth millions of dollars. Spies are hunting a novelist, who they think has those precious diamonds. ‘Lies & Illusions’ is set for an October release. But really, what happened to these guys after ‘Jerry Maguire’ and uhm, what’s Christian Slater’s last hit? Isn’t he straight-to-video these days?

Tom Cruise is going to star in ‘The 28th Amendment’ as none other than the President of the United States of America. Well, as long as he’s acting it’s fine by me. The big budget Warner Bros. thriller follows the story of president Ben Cahill, who finds out the government is actually run by a secret cabal.
Denzel Washington is the leader of the cabal and wants Tom Cruise dead. In the movie, that is. ‘Transformers’ and ‘Mission: Impossible III’ writer Alex Kutzman wrote the script, which might explain the connection to Cruise. I’m expecting something quite mediocre.

Entertainment Weekly is putting out news about Jonah Hill as if he’s the biggest thing in Hollywood right now. First he was going to do Transformers 2. Then he wasn’t after all. And now he apparently is working on a ‘21 Jump Street’ movie. Not even as an actor at this moment, but to write the screenplay and serve as executive producer for the teen movie.
Sony Pictures is developing the picture with the series creator Stephen J. Cannell producing. I still have the feeling it is Jonah Hill himself who is passing on all this news to EW.
