 | | This comes as quite a shock. Director, actor and producer Sydney Pollack just passed away at his home in Los Angeles. He was 73. Although I don’t remember him having any major roles in recent years, he has a very memorable face and had some great performances. But he was better known as a director, winning two Oscars for his ‘Out of Africa.’
Leslee Dart, his publicist and friend, said Pollack died of cancer. Rest in peace. He will be remembered for a long time to come. “His passion is contagious. It inspires everyone around him to dig a little deeper,” cinematographer Owen Roizman said.

 | | Hugh Hefner is said to have chosen Robert Downey Jr. to play him in the biopic called ‘Playboy.’ No contracts have been signed, but Hefner apparently liked his humor and vulnerability in ‘Iron Man.’
Brett Ratner (’Rush Hour’), announced as the director last year, ditched out and is currently not involved in the project anymore. I have no idea how solid these rumors are. The movie has been a long time coming and last year Tom Cruise was even mentioned to play Hugh Hefner.
The picture is currently set to release somewhere in 2009.

Richard Dreyfuss, who had his last big appearance in box office flop ‘Poseidon,’ will take the role of Dick Cheney in ‘W.,’ the George W. Bush biopic by Oliver Stone. Josh Brolin, the guy who takes the money in ‘No Country for Old Men,’ will play Bush, as seen in the cover below — don’t be afraid, you can click it.
The $30 million project will start shooting in Shreveport this month and is targeting an October release, just before the elections. The script is penned by Stanley Weiser, who also wrote the famous business movie ‘Wall Street’ for Oliver Stone. This is turning out to be an interesting cast. If the script is any good this could actually be worth it.

Yes, it’s almost ten years since you first saw ‘American Beauty,’ which got no less than 5 Oscars.
