Actors: Keira Knightley added to 'King Lear'

Keira Knightley King Lear

Keira Knightley will join Anthony Hopkins to star in another adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear.’ The $35 million project was announced at Cannes and will focus on the epic battles, according to the filmmakers. Gwyneth Paltrow is rumored to play Knightley’s big sister.

The movie is one of the many ‘King Liar’ adaptations. Channel 4 is currently producing a TV version with Ian McKellen, based on the critically acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company production. This version contained a much discussed nude scene by McKellen, which will be cut out for TV however.

Actors: Ford won't be reading the reviews

Harrison Ford Review Paper

Harrison Ford won’t be reading the ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ reviews, saying “I suppose it would be interesting, but I don’t read reviews.” And after over 40 years in the biz, he probably knows what’s best. “I don’t want to believe the bad stuff and I don’t want to believe the good stuff. It doesn’t really matter,” he said.

We know Steven Spielberg cares very much about the reaction of the public, considering how upset he was about the internet spoilers. “Steven was wanting to throw up before he went into the press conference he was so nervous about the response and I think it’s because he cares,” Cate Blanchett said.

For Harrison Ford only the box office numbers count. “It’s the people who pay to get in, and whether they are getting satisfaction for their dollars spent,” he said. And the rumored $185 million ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’ industry tracking numbers indicate a great first weekend, maybe even setting some new records.

Actors: Jack Black on 'School of Rock 2'

Jack Black School of Rock 2

Interested in a ‘School of Rock’ sequel? In a few weeks we should know if it’s officially coming, since Jack Black is already working on it. “I’d really like to do it, the last one was great,” Jack Black said at Cannes. “We are seriously thinking about it, there’s already a script. In a few weeks we have to decide if we go through with the project or not.

No word on the involvement of Richard Linklater, but if he has the time I would count him in. He has referenced the idea in several interviews in the years after the first movie. ‘School of Rock 2′ has been a long time coming. The $35 million ‘School of Rock’ was a mild success in 2003, doing over $130 million worldwide. Black didn’t give any details about the scriptwriter or its content.

SAG negotiations, will they ever stop?

Strike SAG

Well, they’ll probably stop when the strike starts, but the Screen Actors Guild and the studios just agreed to resume their labor talks in two weeks, May 28. In last news the SAG negotiations were broken off, because after delaying talks with the AFTRA (Radio and TV) two times, the studios didn’t agree to do it a third time.

The SAG and the studios talked for about three weeks when the negotiations abruptly ended to make way for the AFTRA. The biggest dispute is still the SAG’s demand for bigger residuals from DVD sales, which they already lowered from +100% to +15%. And rules about the distibution of clips on the internet. Starting again May 28, it will give them a little over four weeks before a possible strike after June 30, when the current contracts end.
