We have the first box office numbers for Quantum of Solace in the US. And while it was already doing well overseas, Friday’s Quantum of Solace numbers promise a big splash in the US as well. Also, the latest numbers on Role Models, Madagascar 2 and Soul Men. But mostly just… Bond, James Bond.

No, Amy is not doing that James Bond theme as rumored earlier after all. It is true, she and her producer Mark Ronson were working on it, but Ronson now states it would take ’some miracle of science’ to complete the song. I’d say Amy Winehouse knows all about those ‘miracles of science,’ but that might just be me.
When the news broke last week, Ronson was already cautious by saying an Amy Winehouse Bond theme was just speculation. And now he adds the rehab singer is ‘not ready to record any music.’ Is she ever?
The score for ‘Quantum of Solace’ will be composed by David Arnold, who also did the score for ‘Casino Royale’ and the three Bonds before that. The first official glimpse of ‘Quantum of Solace’ will be given by a trailer at the release of Sony’s ‘Hancock,’ July 2.

Mel ’sugar tits’ Gibson is taking his first leading role since ‘Signs’ by M. Night Shyamalan in 2002. In ‘Edge of Darkness’ he’ll play a detective investigating the death of his activist daughter. Directed by Martin Campbell (’Casino Royale’), it is based on a six-hour mini-series Campbell did in the eighties, which Gibson seemed to have enjoyed.
Mel Gibson hasn’t been in the spotlight since the DUI arrest in 2006. After his anti-Semitic rant, ABC withdrew involvement in a mini-series by his production company Icon Productions, which focused on the Holocaust. Reportedly he got close to accepting new leading roles after spending some time at the AA, but this is the first one to come through.
